Default Battery Winter Storage

I'm replacing the batteries in my RXV this Spring. My thinking is to flip switch to tow and let it sit uncharged til March. The cart is located at Myrtle Beach and it does freeze there.
Is it common for batteries to freeze and crack?

If your batteries are clean, dry, and charged, they won't go dead enough that they'll freeze and bust over Winter at Myrtle Beach. That's my opinion, take it for what it's worth.

Plug the charger in once a month as a bare minimum. Your pack will thank you.

Or use a charger that float charges, so your batteries won't end up with severely sulfated plates or be susceptible to freezing unless the temperature drops below -78°F, and you pack will be fully charged when you take it out of storage.

Cart batteries typically lose about 1% of their charge per day through self-discharge and the sulfation process kick into high gear when the SoC gets below 70%, so do the math.

Okay if I read this right.. You are replacing your batteries after this winter and your question is if it is okay to flip it to tow and leave it until then.. You don't care if they are dead .. If yes then you can do this but it might promote a bunch of corrosion. You'd be better off pulling them out and sitting them somewhere where they can't do any harm or get stolen. If no, get a float charger.. Your new batteries will love them once you get them.

Many of us like 50 or so store our Golf Carts in a unheated building in a Camp Ground in Wesren Pa for about 7 Months over the Winter.I no one that has had a problem. We charge prior to storing and disconnect both Pos and Neg from the pack.

Thanks for all the feedback
kgsc, You are correct in thinking it doesn't matter if they die over the Winter. The cart would not run a couple weeks ago when I made a trip to the beach. All It would do is click, click, click. I checked the batteries with a voltmeter and found one to be bad. They will be 8 years old in Feb so Its time for replacements. I disconnected my DPI charger and carried it inside thinking I was good til March but after getting back home the thought of leaving them in the cart might be a mistake came to mind.
