Slipping In Rear End
I don't normally give input on this site but it's helped me so much with working on my cart that I thought I'd share a problem that I just resolved. A few weeks ago I was loading up my car with tools to do some honey-do's in the barn, backed up went to pull forward and would not go. There was a slipping/grinding sound coming from the rear end.
I pulled it in the garage, jacked it up and pushed the throttle and still sounded like it was coming from the transaxle. So I unbolted the motor to look at the splines and they looked fine. The motor was really dirty so I cleaned it out. Next I removed the transaxle cover and drained the gear fluid which was also very dirty. Did a through check of the gears which looked good. Next removed the left rear wheel & hub, checked the splines which were good and did some more cleaning. Finally removed the right rear wheel and hub and found the culprit. The hub splines were stripped. Came to find out in these carts that the torque transfer goes to the least resistant wheel and obviously a stripped hub will not rotate. Needless to say got a new hub and works like a charm. It was tedious to go through all the steps but my cart got a nice tune up and I learned a bunch. Thanks to everyone on this site that gives precious feedback for us to wrench our own carts! |
