Default Voltage regulator

I have a club car Pioneer 1200 Utility vehicle 1996, and would like to know about the wiring from voltage regulator to starter solenoid. There are three wires on the voltage regulator. Red, yellow & black. Yellow goes to Generator, Black to ground. My question is, the RED wire. The wiring diagram showes it going to the starter solenoid on the terminal where all the white wires are. Should it go to the postive (+) side where the red wire from the battery is attached to starter solenoid? My battery does not charge and I have checked the generator, voltage regulator and the red wire from regulator to starter solenoid and all looks good. Any help would be appreciated.

The red wire from the VR should be on the terminal with the large white wire!

Thanks for the reply.
Now this, I removed the red wire from the starter solenoid, connected volt meter to red wire and to ground ,started engine and as you speed up engine volt meter showed increase in voltage coming from generator. When I connect wire back and go to battery, I do not get the increase in voltage as engine is speeded up. Should I see an increase here also showing battery is being charged from generator?
