Stuck Axle Bearing
G14E cart. Axle bearing failure. Drum and hub off. Axle pulled. Bearing inner race came with axle and removed from axle by heating. Outer race stuck in axle housing. Inner circlip cannot be removed and prevents using a bearing puller. Torching tube not helpful since there's virtually no way to grab the race. How do we get this thing out?? Thanks!

Re: Stuck Axle Bearing
2 way's. You can cut thru the race with a carbide bit (takes alot of work) and pry it out. or you could find a large nut and carefully weld it to the race, then yous a slide hammer or simular to pull it out.

Re: Stuck Axle Bearing
Yikes, I was afraid of something that drastic. I have no, and am not a, welder so I guess I'll be grinding (for probably ever), after stuffing a rag in the axle tube.

Re: Stuck Axle Bearing
Also, you could weld a bead in the inside of the race. It will cause the race to contract, causing it to be easily removable.

Friend built a little slide hammer with a flat hook on the end just for this situation... a few taps around the edge and the race came out. |

Re: Stuck Axle Bearing
I like the slide hammer idea, if only there were gap enough between the inner circlip and the race. Anyone know what the design dimension is for this fit? How much interference was intended - press or slip? I could borrow a stick welder, but am afraid that one tiny slip of the rod and I will have welded the race to the tube.

Re: Stuck Axle Bearing
You could also remove the differential so you can slide a long rod all the way through the far side of the axle tube. That does not however help with the inner c clip

Re: Stuck Axle Bearing
Well the race is out. Used a small diamond wheel on the dremel and cut it into quarters. Even still, the quarters required a lot of force to break loose. Tough little devil. I hope the bearing on the other side comes out whole.

Good to hear it. And good luck on the other side.
