1989 2-stroke
Hello all, new here glad i found this forum.
I am working on an 89 2 stroke for a mechanically challenged friend. When i got the cart i got it running but seemed to be low on compression. don't have a comp tester so i bought a new piston and gasket kit. After piston install cart ran good for 3 or 4 days. Friend calls and said the cart is hard starting and sometimes would not start. so i ordered crank seals and installed them. Now it will not start at all, i think i have got the timing off so I guess after all my ramblings I am asking how to set the timing the right way. |

I'm not positive , but I dont think you can set the timming on this. There should be a key in the flywheel and if its not damaged, and installed properly it should be in time.

Re: 1989 2-stroke
Couple things could be wrong. Sheared timing key, pulsar coil bad, ignitor module bad, ignition coil or spark plug. Seeing as you had the flywheel off to install seals I would start at the timing key.

Re: 1989 2-stroke
the key is definately good, I pulled the flywheel to check it, the ignition part behind the flywheel has two slotted grooves that looks like it could be adjusted, another question I have is where is the magnet? on the shaft or the flywheel

Re: 1989 2-stroke
I'm not 100% sure on this but.... I believe you can adjust the pickup some, the magnet should be embedded in the fan.
I haven't worked on 2 stroke carts for quite a few years and when I did it was all different makes and models, it's pretty hard to remember them all. Best thing to do is get a manual |
