New Controller
Hello,
I have a 2005 TXT Standard (PDS) with a 2.25 HP/2,565 RPM motor & Curtis 1206MX-4301 (350 amp) controller. The controller has died....and my question is what should I do? Is a rebuilt one okay or should it be a new one? Does it have to be the same one again? I know in order to go faster, you have to increase the motor & amps...so should I get a 400 amp one now? Would this allow me to upgrade the motor later? It currently runs around 19 or 20 MPH. I live in Florida, so it is flat...no need for hill concerns and I only drive it on the street. Still has 8in tires, but I want to move to 10 inch soon. Thank you |

Re: New Controller
Welcome to BGW
Ezgo PDS is a great cart and Alltrax has engineered a great control for this cart. See XCT400PDS. It will cost more than a rebuild (worth less in my mind because you get a repaired 15 yr old device that's bound to fail again soon) but, costs less that an OEM replacement. The control itself is $400 but, you will get 24 mph on the flats and 35 % more torque ( power) than stock with a 2 year warranty..... ask your rebuilder for those results!? Also you can add a 7th 6v battery and gain 17% more torque and speed from the stock motor or about 28 mph. For more information look at the website below and read up on 'upgrade help' and the XCT controls for sepex carts. |

Re: New Controller
Okay - I am sold...one more question
If I am going to get from the wife over this anyway, is it worth the $100 more to go with the 500 amp versus 400 amp? Will i see a difference or will it help me in the long run? |

If you run the stock motor you'll have to tune down the 500 so you don't burn it up eventually. Ask me how I know. It did get me a new DD high torque motor.

Re: New Controller
But having a little juice left in your pocket if you ever decide to upgrade motor isnt terrible either. The bigger controller may run a little cooler at a lower "max amp" setting too. Depends on what happens when you "drop the $ number out there"....

Plus it can be cranked up if you ever get that aftermarket motor we all want Another alternative is to run the add-on fan kit to keep the 400 well within safe operating temps while extending the time peak output can be sustained. |

Re: New Controller
Okay - final question...I think.
If I go with the XPS400PDS, 400 AMP Solenoid & fan - $547... or the XPS500PDS, which comes with the 400 amp Solenoid & fan for $569...looks like an easy answer for me. Additional new information...I may be able to get a new 4.45 HP/3,570 RPM motor for $200, so i think this would also require the 500 AMP Thank you all again for the help/information... |

Re: New Controller
No, that motor will not require the 500XCT. It will run on 400XCT with the fan kit and the upgraded solenoid option just fine. However, the same benefits of the over sized 500 control apply to this motor as they do to the stock motor.
XCT400+upgraded 200a solenoid+fan kit = 554.00 XCT500 + 400 Solenoid with fan kit = 629.00 Still that's $75 for 110 peak amps more. Go here to check pricing > Alltrax XCT controls I hope this helps |
