Voltage reducer help
This is on a '10 Precedent. I have a 48 to 12 voltage reducer coming. In the threads, most of the posts say hook the reducer to B- on the controller. Is the controller on the other side of that grey compartment that houses the run/tow switch? How do I access the B- terminal if it's in there? Remove the assembly?
Also -- it looks like the last battery negative goes through a hole in this compartment which I assume may be hooked to the controller. Is that the case? If so, why can't the reducer neg just be hooked to that battery post rather than the terminal on the controller? If they are connected, isn't pack neg and B- on controller the same thing? I could be confusing OBC vs controller (?). Thanks. |

Re: Voltage reducer help
Your assumptions are all correct. The location of the controller is behind the metal panel. The wire running through the hole in the OBC connects to the B- post of the controller. However, the reason you should hook it up to the controller side vs. the battery side is because the onboard computer keeps track of how much power has been removed from the battery pack. There is a sensor in the OBC where the wire runs through it that monitors all of this. If you were to connect your lights to the battery, it wouldn't be able to monitor this. Lucky for you, Club Car thought of you. All Precedents have a #10 black wire with a female bullet connector that you can use for a negative connection for your reducer. It comes out underneath the panel with all of the other wiring. It should be very easy to locate in the back of your battery bucket. Hook your negative circuit there. It runs directly to the controller B- connection.

Re: Voltage reducer help
I found it. The present light kit neg is plugged into it. Thanks for explaining.

Re: Voltage reducer help
David, can you tell me what club car put the extra wire on with the neg. side of last battery? they also have one on the Pos.?
As you can see I know nothing about Precedent cars. I'm having a problem with one (200 that lights will not work. lights are factory, I'm not sure where to look for fuses. One more question, did they put a voltage reducer on the precedent??? If I add one, should I just hook to the Pos and neg post and run it hot all time. As always thank for the good information. Re: Voltage reducer help
Maybe off topic of a little hijack, but if I removed the OBC should I still hook up the NEG wire from the voltage reducer to the controller B-? Thanks
