Default Re: battery gauge

Ive used this in a different application (AC not DC) and it works great. Im actually using two of them to monitor both legs of my generator.

Heres the DC version of the same meter (it does require a shunt). The explanations and instructions look a little richer than the link in your original post.

This one (DC) has a built in shunt, and is 100A.

Color LCD, doesnt use a shunt, 100A

Again, a 100a shunt isn't going to work on a golf cart that can draw upwards of 400 amps.

This is the 1 I put in because my charger was giving me some grief here lately. It wouldn't shut itself down so instead of relying on the standard 5 bar red step guage, I installed this 1 for around $10 from Amazon. Says "waterproof/shockproof/etc...". Time will tell if its all that.
BUT - I will say, the blue led is SO bright, if it was faceing forward, you wouldn't need headlights ! BRIGHT. Probably going to cut a piece of dark window tint to tame it down a bit even.

Yes, apparently this thread has totally run off the tracks.

Started on ammeters now shifted to voltmeters.

Sorry I revived it.

Sorry about that. I jumped in there without paying more attention & clearly followed the path straight off the rails...

How do you have your wired? Does it turn off with the key or is it always on?

FZ0niner; it's all a matter of preference.

You can wire it directly to the pack (+) and (-) and have it on all the time (it only draws mA, so the effect on the pack is almost nothing when not in use) or you can run the negative to pack (-) and the positive to the key switch to have the DVM turn off with the key.

Thank you, I would like it to turn off with the key, but not sure if it would work. Thank you for the info, that answers my question.
