Default 1998 Club Car DS Regen 48 Volt, Surging problem

Hello all

Can anyone offer some help?

I have a 1998 Club Car DS 48 Volt PDP. I have upgraded: Alltrax 500 amp controller with map for new Admiral motor, heavy duty solenoid, removed resistor coil, larger 4 gauge cables, new V-glide. Batteries do have a semi-normal voltage w/ and w/o load. Batteries were fine before controller/motor swap. It also have a lift kit with fairly large knobby tires.

When accelerating, it surges. Esp up hills at different speeds. Also I don't have a great range of possible throttle range options. There's mostly just medium and high. I have tried many varied adjustments on the Alltrax software, contacted Alltrax a few times about this. But I can't seem to get rid of the surging. Turning down the motor amps, turning off regen braking, reducing the top speed % all have helped. But have not fixed the surging.

My first thought is the lift kit and large tires are needing quite a bit more torque than stock.

Any help? Thank you

Default Re: 1998 Club Car DS Regen 48 Volt, Surging problem

I am a newbie to this and have been trying to read a ton because I have the same problem after a Alltrax 400 amp upgrade, lift and 23" tires.

Have you tested the batteries while driving the cart? I found out that my voltage was dropping below 40V while accelerating hard and that was causing the controller to drop out then connecting immediately and on and on causing the surging / shuddering. I then tested each battery and 3 are shot dropping below 6 volts (I have 8 volt batteries).
