Default Have to use choke to get it running.

I'm afraid I know the answer before I ask......I just bought an old cart.Guy I bought from thinks it's a g2.I need to confirm this. There's alot of info on here, and I'm trying to get as much as I can.It runs good, but you gotta work the choke to get it running.I've gathered that I should clean the exhaust, and check lines/hoses etc.I did notice somebody had the same problem. The answer.....crankshaft seals. Now,I'm very new to carts, but this doesn't sound fun!!Who wants to drop the bad news on me??I think I'm ready.

After you figure out the model then start out small and cheap.
Look for air leaks in the intake and air box.

A little good news is, the air box on Yamaha's have to be sealed tight. I take the whole canister out of the car, take it apart, clean every thing up and I reassemble it, making sure all the little nooks and crannies fit as they were supposed to when it was new. There is a long skinny O ring, that fits in the top lid, make sure it is there. And the 4 lid straps need to be there as well as the hooks they attach to. Then I put it back into the car.

Rib is your first task, Dooms and I are your second.

Good luck MIke

Thanks for all of the advice!!I will get you guys some numbers soon so we can figure out what it is.The cart is over at my welding shop, so I have to post between trips over there.Let me lay this on you. Earlier today I was over checking a few things.Cleaned the exhaust....no help. Now I did notice the airbox was zip tied together.A fix I've seen on here in others pics.I remember reading about the pilot screw adjustment. Now,I' m not really sure what that is,however if it's the flush brass screw on top of the carb??Or in that area anyway. It was run down tight.I backed it off 1 turn...and bam! It runs MUCH better. No choke needed at all.Now did I compensate for something else,or was it adjusted wrong?? Thanks for reading.

Thats an idle mixture screw if it has a spring wrapped around its threads. It should be adjusted for idle to midrange throttle response. Turn it in or out quarter turn at a time till you feel it drives its best, warm of course. Sealed air box still holds true, I believe tho.
Now I'm not a 2 stroke guy, and I don't want to give you any wrong info. so I'm gonna back out and just read what the big guys tell you.
Good luck Mike

Most all the yamaha run well with the idle mix screw 1.25 to 1.5 turns out. Only affects idle and off idle throttle. G1 is 2 stroke with a monster muffler in front, G2 is 4 stroke muffler behind engine.

2 stroke, monster muffler in front.....10-4 on the g1.Now it's not the screws in the side of the carb with springs around the threads. This is on top,it's fits flush,or countersunk if you will. It's brass with a slot in it.This is what I adjusted out 1 turn. Sorry if I don't know what it's called. Before this past Saturday,I had only seen a Yamaha golf cart here and there...Never touched one.I'm learning!
