Default Starter direction

To test my generator on a 2007, club car, can I do it before the voltage regulator and if so where to put the test leads, should I ground the field? Then test from there and the charging wire. I took the generator off and tested it on a pulley test stand running and it showed 20 volts running backwards, but the guy thought it was a ccw gen. And had the leads to reverse it switched when he tested it, I am assuming that is irrevelant.

The first test should be a continuity test to make sure you have no internal short. Disconnect all the wires to S/G. Place the - probe on the S/G housing and test each terminal with + probe. You should NOT have any continuity between housing and any post. if you do, then the armature is grounding to the field or a brush wire is grounding to the housing.

I'm assuming you want to test voltage output and not starter function? The next test is to disconnect the small DF terminal wire and use a jumper wire from the DF terminal to the A2 terminal. Run the engine at full speed and check battery voltage. Should be putting out 15V or so.
Quix: When you post a question, make sure to clarify the issue/problem you are having. The more info the better.

Oh yeah.... Make sure the disconnected DF wire doesn't touch anything. Tape it to make sure.
