Default How do I Remove Golf Cart Top

First off let me say that I am brand new to golf carts. Always had ATVs. My wife and I inherited a golf cart from her grandfather who passed away. All I know is that its a 1998. Not even sure of the make (ez go, club car etc).

It is a stock cart, with no modifications. It has batts that are a year old and a brand new charger. It runs fine according to her relatives.

Here is the issue. I have to travel about 100 miles to get it. I have an enclosed trailer but the cart is too tall to fit. Im no mechanic, but I have some sense when it comes to working on things. Can I easily remove the top and the 4 upright support arms? This would allow it to fit into the trailer for transport.

I have googled removal of golf cart tops and other similar searches and can't find a good example.

Thought I would try this forum. I wish I had more details about the cart as I know that would make a big difference.

Thanks in advance

In theory yes but when I removed my top I had 2 of the bolts snaped off. So I would suggest taking some sort of penetrating oil and soak them as best you can. BTW my cart is a 96 so same vintage.

Sounds like it may not be a rusty course car. Txt has 1/2" bolts, rxv has 15mm bolts, yamaha has 12, 13, or 14mm bolts, club car has 1/2" bolts. Might as well have a 9/16" too.

Welcome to BGW!!!!! I have taken tops off of both a CC and an EZGO. They are pretty straight forward. What you see is what you get. But I would allow myself about 3 times more time than what it seems, which is about 4 hours. To put it another way, its not complicated, but it is more time consuming than you think. If there is a rear seat attached, it seems to me it will take you longer. Good luck!

BTW, if you do not plan on keeping the top, you could always cut it off wit some bolt cutters or a hack saw. Time - about 30 mins. Just a thought!

yeah, Its been stored in a garage at her grandparents so its not weathered. I have plenty of tools, sockets, wrenches etc.... I just don't want to get over there and and the support arms be welded to the frame

Welcome to BGW

Put it in the back of your truck and leave the trailer home

You can also let the air out of the tires to gain a couple more inches.
