FSIP controller setup/operation theory

I just ordered a 700A FSIP controller to go into a 92 CC DS using a stock motor and have some questions that I wondered if anyone had the answer to. I know it's higher capacity for my current situation but I decided to oversize it in the event that I later decide to upgrade the motor.

The max current adjustment will be shipped turned down. My first question is does the max current adjustment merely limit the max current that could be drawn or does it dictate the max current that will be drawn? I don't know what amperage the motor is but if it's a 350 amp motor, would it not only use what it required rather than what is available?

If the controller dictates how much will be drawn by the motor, then wouldn't you have to be able to measure the load amperage going to the motor to know exactly where the adjustment would need to be set? In that case, I'd need to use a dc amp clamp to determine exactly what was being drawn.

Tried looking on the GE website but did not find the info I was looking for. Does anyone have the answer? Thanks,

The "CL" adjustments limits the maximum amount of current that the controller will allow the load to use.

The other important adjustment is the "CA" or controlled acceleration adjustment.

You don't want that adjustment any higher than You can feel having any effect on the motor acceleration.

If the motor cannot develop any more torque, it will convert any additional current to heat.

I decided to get a programmable Alltrax controller instead for a coulple of reasons. First I don't want to guess where the adjustments should be set. I prefer having a measurable way of determining where an adjustment should be (besides feel) and secondly it would be difficult to make adjustments after the unit was buried underneath the cart. The Alltrax gives me a measurable result and will be easy to access with a computer. Don't know but if this will be an option but will look into making the usb connection wireless with a usb/wifi adapter or usb/bluetooth adapter so I can skip the cable.

I used a 10 foot 9 conductor ribbon cable with 2 db 9 connectors and mounted it on the dash. I would have never been able to make any Precedent adjustments the way it was. I know you have a DS but it's probably close to the same situation.
