Re: 2005 TXT wont go
I am not completely sure, but since you are running a high amp controller with a stock motor, this may be the problem. I would ( or you ) talk to Alltrax about your setup, even though you are set at 80% it still may be tooooo much for the motor, 400 amp run all day long. BTW nice long travel on your cart!

Re: 2005 TXT wont go
If Alltrax deems this too be the problem, I would send your motor to Plum Quick, let them rewire it for ya, it would be cheaper than buying a new one. Just my 02.

Re: 2005 TXT wont go
If your local cart place is saying the motor is fine, ask them for a 400 AMP controller and run that for a week. I bet you still have an issue with it shutting down. 500AMPs on a stock motor is going to cause shutdowns. There is a reason that the manufacturers of aftermarket high amp controllers reccommend motor change-out on the "big" controllers. The field windings in a stock controller just can't handle the output of 500AMPS. Restricting the controller output to 80% reduces the voltage going to the controller, but does nothing to the amperage being sent out. The motor is getting all 500AMPS and has likely begun shorting internally. This is why your motor is getting so hot that you don't want to touch it. I would be curious as to how they "tested" the motor at the local shop.

Re: 2005 TXT wont go
When it stops again perform the following test promptly after it stops:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You test for unwanted continuity aka a short. Label and disconnect all 4 motor cables ( use 2 wrenches at a time on each terminal to make certain the STUD DOES NOT TURN !) The check that you should have continuity between A1 and A2 and between F1 and F2 but NOT between any A and any F terminal. That's it Use the same care not to turn the terminal studs during reassembly. (props to SpoiledRotten for this quote) To access the motor to perform the test above you will have to remove the black plastic access hatch (4 Torqx or Phillips head screws). |
