I am also rebuilding a golf cart, do the seats yourself... ITS WAY CHEAPER...

do the wires yourself, its way cheaper... don't forget to SOLDER & crimp the ends

otherwise, don't skimp on new parts, those speed controllers and F&Rs are very important... Make sure there is NO rust on any of your contacts...

I have it running under it's own power!!! Moves along alot better than before. (haha it's moving) I think it can run better though. it's very touchy to get started moving smoothly. (real jumpy like a on and off switch) Then when I come to a hill it starts to slow down. (The batteries read 37 volts when testing) I cleaned the contacts with some electric motor cleaner and Scotch bright pad. I am thinking I will just try to replace the entire assembly.

The batteries need charging now. But he brought me the charger and it's a Ez-go time based charger! (1-10 hours) How should I charge? I don't want to over charge. Can I just base the charge off of volts?

I am use to nice battery chargers that can cycle the batteries and have an automatic shut off. I use to race Radio control electric buggies and have been using this nice Competition electronic charger for my nickle metal batteries that give all of this information on amps, resistance, run time yad, yad. Then to just throw back to the stone age makes me lost!

That charger is a semi auto. It will either shut off after the time you set on the dial OR it will shut off when fully charged. To be sure post the charger model. Just an FYI....36 volts is 80% of capacity and considered dead! So 37 volts wasn't fully charged. You will have more power fully charged.

Wait, if its a 36V golf cart, meaning 6x6v batteries, then isn't 36v all it'll ever have?

36 volt chargers put out around 42+ volts. 6 volt batteries produce around 2.3 volts per cell or more. Do the math.

All pack readings are to be taken 30 minutes after the charger has shut off. This allows the batteries to 'settle' for a more true reading = somewhere between 40 and 42v depending on the condition of your batts and charger.

A simple voltmeter would have told you this a long time ago....
How can you rebuild a cart with out one?

The only numbers I can find are Serial No 82 02317 (Ezgo Textron) It does say automatic, I hope that means it shuts off when it sense the battaries are charged and not just when the timer stops.

Still working on this little dumpling, it's time for a motor, speed controller, lift kit and tires. The buggy has pretty much been taken over by the wife. She isn't a speed demon so she mainly need trq and be able to ride around the pasture and through the woods.
