Default Wiring question from charging plug to batteries

I have a 2003 EZ Go Precision Drive TXT. There are 3 wires coming from the charging port. The black wire goes to the -, the white wire goes to the + and the small red wire isn't going anywhere. I have had the cart charging now for a few hours and the charger is very hot and the state of charge meter is still flashing on the low point. Am I correct if I wire the small red wire to the +? I know the red wire is supposed to be connected, but it isn't. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

New guy here so go easy on me. Sometimes by reading I learn just enough to get myself in trouble. So here goes. I thought the red wire is for the ignition interlock, so if you go to +Batt are you bypassing the interlock?

Yes, common practice is to run the charge cord through the steering wheel, there's your interlock.

The reed switch(interlock)in the receptacle fails often and is $45 plus shipping. So most people just bypass the unit.....hope this helps.
