Default Lester Matic 36 Volt Charger with timer knob not working/charging

Well looks like I picked up another cart

The cart is an 86 model and it came with a huge Lester Matic 36 Volt Charger with timer knob. Model number 8714

When I plug it into the cart and twist the knob the charger hums very loudly but the amp meter does not move.

The pack voltage is very low, does this style charger need the pack to be at a certain voltage to turn on? If not any ideas?

I think the older chargers will charge no matter what the pack voltage is, but I could be wrong. Maybe the amp meter itself is broken?

My advice would be keep your eye out for a newer CC accupower charger, way more convenient.

Cool! I don't think it needs voltage, I think it will charge anything...
Does it hum when it's not plugged into the cart?

I agree with this, the Accupowers you just plug in and let them do their thing- 100% automatic.

Could it just be that the amp meter is bad?
Can you tell that the batts are not charging?

No its not charging. I put my multi meter across the batteries with the charger plugged in to power and to the cart and voltage across the pack did not increase.

*update got the pack voltage up to 30volts and change* with my 12 volt charger.

My charger acts the same no difference then before. I am using a friends automatic lester charger and the cart is now charging.

Something is a miss with my charger...
