Symptoms of a faulty Forward/Reverse switch?
Hello Fellow Carters!
Just picked up a 08 Precedent with 4 12 volt batteries. Working out the bugs and I have a question on the F/R switch. The problem is intermittent but here is what it is doing.
Does the switch need to be replaced or is it possible to repair it? I'm pretty handy, can I disassemble it and clean the contacts? Thanks! |

I would go with a new switch.

I'm not good on knowing all the years.... But if your cart has a "little" switch not a big lever for F&R get a new switch as they are just cheap little switches and hard to refurb.

You can actually carefully take apart the switch. Bend the "v" shaped contact piece to help,it make better contact and it will function correctly.
That said, if the buzzer is sounding, it may not be the switch. |

From the back of the switch the correct order of the wires is blue red then white with the Blue being on the F side and white on the R.

Re: Symptoms of a faulty Forward/Reverse switch?
Thanks and I really appreciate the feedback. It may that when we were cleaning the battery area we may have got a bit of water in the switch or even the controller area.
Today I'll pull the switch, run the tests as outlined in the Service Manual and go from there! Scott |

I think the switch is wet. It happens a lot. Just take it apart and dry it out. There are two tabs at the base of the switch that you can pry outward to separate the switch. It's fairly easy to do.

That will be the first thing I'll try, thanks for the direct (and simple) suggestion!

Re: Symptoms of a faulty Forward/Reverse switch?
Fixed! As suggested I took the switch out, carefully disassembled it and using my compressor gently blew the water out of it. Then took my time cleaning all the moving contacts and reassembled it. Total time 15 minutes and it works just fine now. Thanks everyone!
