Running 36v on 48v Club Car
I just came across a 48v 98 Club Car that has been fitted with six 6V Trojans (running 36v). This was not a mistake and the battery install was done by someone that supposedly knew what they were doing. Has anyone heard of this "downgrade" from 48 to 36?

Re: Running 36v on 48v Club Car
Yep... had 48V charger under rear seat. Pulled it out and relay was bad in it so I think they were using using external 36 volt charger with front plugin for charging.
Not sure why they would stick a set of new 6v Trojans in a 48v cart... I'm thinking now I might add two additional 6v batteries in compartment under rear seat where original 48v charger was. Hate to mix new/old batteries. Open to suggestions. Thanks |

Re: Running 36v on 48v Club Car
There is no good reason to put 36v batteries in a 48v cart. Performance would be very poor.
However I bought a cart like this once...... owner was unaware of the voltage issue and had ruined the 36v batteries with the 48v charging. |

Re: Running 36v on 48v Club Car
Just charging it now...so not sure if it runs yet. 6v Trojans are March, 2014. I need to check the obvious but overlooked possibility that a 36v motor was installed at one time. Still... controller says 48v. Confused.

Re: Running 36v on 48v Club Car
Even if the motor was 36v the controller is the main player...install extra 6v or install8v batteries and find a new home for the 6v batteries...fix the 48v charger and your off to the races...

Yes... will get it back to 48v. This is from a place that maintains a fleet of 100's, if not a few thousand, carts. Can't imagine these 6v's were an accident. Thanks.

Would that place happen to be Walt Disney World?
