Default Re: Bought my first cart today, 1999 Ezgo 48V

Just got back to town, tied the cart on my land. It was great! Although it looses all its speed up any incline, it doesn't stop. I went up some fairly significant inclines, where we had to sit forward to keep the front wheels on the ground for steerage; even with 5 people loaded. I ordered 2 gage cables from 'carts unlimited' I am hoping that will help. My cables now are auto zone car battery cables, according to the guy I bought the cart from. I believe him because they get pretty hot after using the cart.

Actually no, I am just looking for the cart to keep the speed it has up inclines; and have a lot of torque in hilly country. Yes the cart has been modified. Lift kit, larger knobby tires, 700 amp controller. I just ordered 2 gage wires from carts unlimited. I am concerned about the motor, it is only 8.3 hp, and may be too little motor.

I suppose it is time to figure out what type drive system you have.
A 1999 would either be a series (series wound motor) or a DCS (Sepex motor)
If the controller cover has a Run/Tow switch on it, you have a DCS.

-------
All carts slow down going uphill.
Tall tires reduce torque and increase speed.
The high amp controller increases torque.
A 48V battery pack instead of 36V, increases both speed and torque.
Tall tires combined with a high amp controller will load the battery pack down, dropping voltage under load and reducing speed.
A 48V battery pack made up of six 8V batteries has fewer AH than a 48V battery pack made up from eight 6V batteries and will be slower under load.
An 8.3hp motor is not stock, but is it a speed winding or a torque winding?
Also, in general terms, horsepower is a numbers game played by advertisers.

Basically a cart is a balancing act between speed and torque and run-time as well as functionality and cosmetics.
