Battery hold-down for 7th battery?
Upgrading to 42V, bought a hold-down kit from a local auto-parts store but it's not going to work (too short, and strap runs down the middle)..
What do most people do to secure their additional batteries? ..a |

Re: Battery hold-down for 7th battery?
You need to find one like this one that goes around the perimeter of the top. you may need to make longer hold studs, but that is easy.

Re: Battery hold-down for 7th battery?
Do an advanced search for "yurtle" as poster and look for something like "eight T-105s under seat", to see what I did. A suggestion from a fellow poster resulted in a good, rubber battery hold down system, that needed some mods, but worked quite well for me.

Re: Battery hold-down for 7th battery?
I tried some heavy duty Ty-wraps, but they broke when I came to a screeching halt when the motor seized.
These were 3' long, 3/8" wide 1/16" thick Ty-wraps that I've used on previous occasion to secure some mighty heavy objects. The Ty-wraps straps didn't break, the fasteners failed, but the effect was the same. Fortunately, no damage was done to the battery or the charge receptacle. At the moment, I've got it blocked in place with a couple of 2X4's so it cannot move forward or backwards. Side to side isn't an issue and it cannot tip very far in either direction. I've got another one of the regular hold downs used to secure the other six batteries and I'm going to cut it in half, grind down the ribs on the underside that are in the way and then used 5/16" threaded rod to bolt the two pieces through the bottom plate. The hold downs can still slip off, so I'm going to wrap one (or more) of the heavy duty TY-wraps around them and the battery. |

Re: Battery hold-down for 7th battery?
That's the same hold-down I bought. OK, just lengthen it - that's easy, thanks!
I'll put some rubber shelf/drawer liner under the battery to prevent it from sliding. ..a |

Look at that whole post, and you'll see where I used angle and an old mouse pad to completely surround the battery, holding it in place from sliding.

Quote:
The hole on the frontside on the shelf the battery sits on is fairly large and I was going to use fender washers to keep the nut on the threaded rod from pulling through it, but did want the bottom of battery riding on the washer. A rubber spacer under the battery with a cutout for the washer will take care of it. |

Re: Battery hold-down for 7th battery?
It's hard to see in my picture but I mounted the 7th and 8th batteries with a piece of bed frame angle steel and a couple pieces of all-thread going diagonal from one corner of the battery to the ezgo frame on the other side of the battery. The batteries do not slide at all because of the all-thread crossing the sides.
