Default What is it and do I need it?

Hello,

I recently bought our first gold cart for my wife to putt around the lake on. We only paid $200 for it, bought a set of 1 yr old batteries from a repair place and now it seems to run great. Its a bit rough but its a winter project to clean it up and dress it up for her. Anyhow, the neighbor said it had been in a front end collision with a pole. The fender is a bit wrinkled and its missing the lower cowling that covers the steering linkages but other than that, it seems to drive smooth and turn easy enough. Ive wrenched on cars all my life so I think its going to be an easy project.

Anyhow, while looking at fabricating a nice little aluminum diamond plate cover to replace the lower cowling, I got to really looking at the steering and for the life of me cant figure out what this linkage across the front would be used for other than stabilizing.

What is it for and can I permanently remove it?

We drive it around on paved roads except for the gravel drive way if that matters.

Just my 2 cents but it looks to me like where golf courses would connect a few carts togther and they could tow several at one time, when I lifted my ez go all that stuff left. I'm not sure but i would say it could leave...maybe disconnect it and see how it acts...... Hope you get it figured out

Yeah, it just seems to swing back and forth, if anything looks like it adds drag to the steering and seems to just be another spot to keep greased with the tie rod ends and all.

It is part of a tow bar assembly that steers the cart when being towed.
