Need Advice with 1994 Medalists Build
I have been searching and researching for days and am having trouble making heads or tails of all this cart stuff.
Let me start my saying I am good with my hands and have built several Jeeps, trucks and a car or two. So mechanically I am good to go! Here is what I got: 1994.5 EZGO Medalists its pretty much a shell, it has a stock motor that spins, it has a stock controller but not sure if it works, solenoid is missing and it looks like they tried to wire controller without the solenoid. No batteries, it was a 36 volt cart, and I have a 36 volt charger. I can handle the frame off rebuild but have questions on lift and electronics. Sorry for being long winded! Here is what I want: I am building a cart mainly for my wife and kids to ride around at our lake cabin, some moderate hills but no mud just gravel and dirt. I would like it to be stable at speed, 15 to 20 mph is plenty fast. So 36 or 48 volt? How high to lift is any? How to I keep it stable at speed? Please let me know your thoughts and ideas Thanks in advance |

Lift it 4-6 inches and put 22" tires on it. This will roll over any obstacle you should be straddling without getting too tall (unstable) or robbing too much power from the little 2.5 hp motor.
Most of those carts were series drive. A few were DCS. Series cart, stock motor, 22" tires = will get up to 20 running on 48v.15 mph on 36v I hope this helps Scottyb |

Yes it is a series cart. So I can run 48 volts on stock motor?
Is an upgrade to a 400 amp controller enough? Probably one of your packages Scotty's! Is there an advantage to 12 inch rims over 10 inch rims? |

Scottyb will set you up on the electronics so call him when you can. After building my first cart (95 Medalist DCS) and driving it for 7 months the only thing I regret is not starting out with 48V. so do yourself a favor and pony up for the extra volts, especially if you are going with larger than stock tires and a lift. Good luck and send up pictures when you get started. Marc |
