Default Digital Meter Install Help

Just installed my controller upgrade package from Scotty B. Good Stuff!
Now onto the digital meter. I've got it all wired up and have some troubles:

1. The meter reads 38.7 and the Pack reads 37.6. I also put the meter on the terminals of the meter which also read 37.6. I don't think my voltmeter is off that much (but possibly?)

2. The meter doesn't power off with the key off. It's wired per the with lights option - spliced + to I on key switch.

3. Just realized the cart will go F/R without the key turned to run. I'm guessing this is a bad key switch?

I'm sure they're all related but figure id give the board a shot...Thanks!

Since you posted in the Electric EZGO form, I'm fairly certain you have an electric golf cart made by EZGO, but other than that, it is a mystery.

Posting the cart's year, body style and drive type would help us help you.

Initially we wondered about the accuracy of these meters also. SO I connected 4 of the little meters and 2 Flukes to a cart and ran it through its paces and recharge cycle. The little meters always read within a 10th of a volt of each other and the DVMs concurred they were correct.

Sorry...PDS 36v with new Alltrax 400A from Scotty B with new solenoid.

My DVM is set to 200v - the next lowest setting is 20v. I wonder if that would make my DVM read low? For what it's worth, I trust Scotty's pretty meter versus my Harbour Freight DVM.

The keyswitch issue is frustrating. How do I test the keyswitch to see if that is the problem? Thanks again!

1. Could be a low battery in the H-F DVM. Could be a bad test lead.
Try setting it to the lowest Ohm range and touch the two test lead tips together. Should read Zero Ohms (Short)

2. The voltage source for the keyswitch is Pin-9 on the original PDS J-1, and the switched leg is Pin-8.
Connect the negative test lead to the battery pack's main negative terminal.
You can push the probe of the H-F DVM's positive test lead into the backside of the PDS J-1 Plug to get voltage readings while it is plugged into the PDS to DCX adapter.
Pin-9 should have pack voltage less 0.6V (Voltage drop across a diode in the adapter) when F/R is in either F or R.
Pin-8 will should have same voltage when Key is ON and Zero when Key is OFF.

You can also check just the keyswitch by unplugging the PDS J-1 from the PDS to DCX adapter and measuring between pins 8 & 9 with an ohmmeter.

FWIW: The voltage at the keyswitch is not true battery pack voltage, it goes through two sets of switch contacts, a diode and a half dozen or so Plug/Jack connections. I wired mine straight to the battery pack. It stays on all the time, but its been on for a couple years and I don't see any degradation in the readability.

As for accuracy, the one I've got is within ~0.05V of the 4 digit DVM I use when I want better than 0.1V accuracy for At-Rest and On-Charge battery voltage readings.

I got two harbour friegts that read a full volt off from fluke meters. my guess its the cheap harbour freight meter.
