Re: My 87 Yamaha G3 Sun Classic Rebuild
Happy almost New Year's!
Okay I got her all wired up & most everything appears to be working. I'm awaiting the new charger to test further because the batteries are a bit low and I don't want to tax them. Working items: Forward (Yay!), Reverse (Yay!), (1) headlight, the horn, the backup beeper and (1) tail-light. Here are my non-working issues thus far: - When I first turned on headlights they both came on; however after a few mins of trying the turn signals etc. one of the headlights went off permanently. Do you think that I burned out a bulb or? - The turn signals are not working at all. I hear clicks but nada. - The brake lights do not come on at all when pedal is depressed. - One tail-light bulb is not working. - Are there supposed to be high-beams? The headlight lever does pull backwards but the headlights go out when I do this. Luke or anyone else have some thoughts and/or ideas on where I should go from here to get these electrical issues resolved? Pics: |

It sounds to me like you have bad bulbs but I would check for voltage with your multimeter at the bulb sockets. The headlight bulbs can be accessed by removing the dash piece with the vents in it. It is very easy. Three little pins at the top and it comes off.

Re: My 87 Yamaha G3 Sun Classic Rebuild
Any ideas on the brake lights not working when pedal depressed? Or thoughts on turn signals? Also what is the headlight lever supposed to do when it's pulled backwards or pushed forward? Is it supposed to be a high beam setting by chance or?

Re: My 87 Yamaha G3 Sun Classic Rebuild
Yes it is a highbeam. Pulling it towards you flashes the highbeam and pushing it away locks them on.
About the turn signals, I would check the flasher relay. That was where I had issues. The brake lights are controlled by a switch underneath with a spring that attaches near the brake cables under the pedal. Mine was busted so I had to replace it. Check to make sure that switch is working. |

Re: My 87 Yamaha G3 Sun Classic Rebuild
Any ideas why my highbeams might not work at all? I've got one headlight out, but will be replacing both bulbs...maybe that'll fix those.
What did you have to do to the flasher relay and where is it located? Thanks for the tips I'll get into it and let you know. Do you by chance know the part # for the switch? |

Why do the batteries say “M8?” Wouldn’t that be the 13th month of the year :-)?

Re: My 87 Yamaha G3 Sun Classic Rebuild
Those are the stickers the dealer put on them, not sure what they mean. But the date codes I've checked are embossed onto the lugs and were all December 18. Have no idea why he put those stickers on them while loading them up, I should have asked.
What did you have to do to the flasher relay and where is it located? |
