Yes. I dunno what would happen if that is done.....and I don't wanna find out.

One of (MHO) nice features of the ZEVA was the option to buy ($4) the temperature probe. I have my temp gizmo sandwiched in the middle of the pack.

The coldest I've been out this year is in the high 20's and after being out for about 4-5hrs, the ZEVA displayed the battery temps to be in the high 30's.

I think the Zeva temp probe is only used to prevent over temperature operation, not low temperature charging.

The issue with low temperature charging is Lithium plating vs intercalation, you can research that if you want to understand what happens with lithium cells charged at low temperature.

Thanks - I learn something new everyday
I've probably been guilty of doing this?

Yes....the temp probe's job is for overcharge temp shutdown.

OTOH....a side benefit is telling me the pack temp. For cold weather that's a good thing to know.

If (at some point) the probe shows near 32 degrees, I will know to let it sit in my heated garage for a time in order to warm up the pack.

So what do folks with cars do in sub freezing temps when they need to charge their car after work? Do they come with something like old school block heaters to heat up the batteries?

If someone were to take a lithium cart on an extended camping event, and planned on charging with a generator, is that not possible if it never gets above freezing?

Inquiring minds wanna know.

Every automobile manufactured with lithium batteries have technology built in to deal with those cases.

The cells themselves get warm as You use them so a lot of times all you need to do is place a load like an accessory and the cells warm up.

Charging is where the issue normally happens and again automobiles have all sorts of ways to deal with it: insulation, heaters, radiators, slow charging rates, etc.

There are settings you can make for the renege option.....IIRC. The "problem" can be to much current going into a lithium battery than it can handle.

Friend drives an electric VOLT quite a bit. He tells me the batteries have a cooling system that runs/rods his AC in the summer and heater for the winter.
He said there is a big difference in performance and run time in cold weather... adding this is the reason why electric will not replace gas.
