1989 EZGO Marathon 2pg
Just bought a 1989 EZGO Marathon (‘89’ are the last two numbers on the manufacturer code) and am trying to source engine rebuild parts. Through my research, I have discovered that it is the 2pg version. The muffler is vertical and the spark plug is on the side of the mounted engine, not the top as in the 3pg models.
It seemed strange to me, because I had read that 1989 was the year that the 3pg engine came into existence, yet mine appears to be a 2pg. I should be ordering parts for this cart that fit those from 1980-1988, right? Perhaps this could’ve been one produced in late ‘88 and sold in ‘89? Just not sure and don’t want to keep ordering parts that don’t fit correctly. Thanks for all the help - this forum has helped me beyond belief. |

Yours is the third one we have had on here, so they do exist.
If your exhaust pipe mounts to the top of the muffler, and the carburetor has a vertical choke shaft, I would call it an 88. The carburetor might even say bv-24. |

Ok, I’ll check for the labeling on the carburetor. It’s a good thing that we can call it an ‘88 - I ordered a top end kit for the 1980-88 model haha!
The exhaust pipe also does mount to the top of the muffler. What a relief, thanks again cart around, you’ve been a great help! Looking forward to reading more on this forum. |

Hey, kandkwillis - Where did you order your parts? I have a EC25-2PG and need a top end kit...... I haven't found anything on ebay and other cart sites are on back order.

Hey kandkwillis, the cart is still going strong! I had bought the cart and noticed it didn't have a lot of power. In the process of doing the top end, I found that a piece of the piston had actually broken off inside the housing and somehow hadn't damaged anything else. After I swapped out the top end and put it back together, the cart ran great! Since then it's been running great with no issues. |
