whining noise
I have just purchased a 1999 g16 gas cart and have noticed a whining type noise coming from the engine or rear when I am running. I also noticed that when I let off the gas the cart seems to slow faster than it should and the whining noise slows at the same time. Any ideas.
Thanks Troy |

Re: whining noise
The yamaha guys will be along in a bit Meantime try to deternine if the noise is coming from the engine or the transaxle? If needed remove the belt and run the engine. No whining? It's not the engine

Re: whining noise
the whining in my yammi is usually my wife wanting to go home.lol
seriously though, check your fluid levels in addition to what scottyb said. my cart slows fast when i let off the gas also.Yamaha's do not idle.when you let off the gas the engine will stop.this is normal. |

Re: whining noise
I will try running it without the belt and check all the fluids this weekend. I hate to sound dumb, but I have not seen where to check the transmission fluid.

Re: whining noise
I guess the sound is more of a whirring sound. The engine does shut down when I let off the gas, but the whirring sound continues and slows as the cart stops. Maybe some sort of bearing? I have also started getting the growling noise so I am going to check the secondary clutch bushing and circlip.

Re: whining noise
Try giving both clutches 2-3 pumps of grease, look on the outside for the fittings. Also, make sure the brakes are not adjusted too tight.

Re: whining noise
I greased the clutches but was wondering how to see if the breaks are adjusted too tight? I appreciate all the help, I am new to this and still learning.

Re: whining noise
Jack up the rear of the cart, put it in neutral and see if you can turn the wheels by hand. Should turn freely with a little drag.

Re: whining noise
Both of the rear tires are catching on the brakes when I try to turn them. I removed the cover from the driver's side and when I push the brake pedal the brakes do not even move and there is a lot of brake dust on the drum. How do I go about adjusting the brakes from here?
Thanks |
