The day I need help getting across the street will be the day all 7 of my golf carts won't go
You are correct about switching it back but those batteries could be costly? What solenoid do you have? Does it have a resistor across the 2 big posts and a diode across the 2 small posts?

Thanks for letting me know that switching it back would be good. Phew!
Not worried about the cost of the batteries. My 8v batteries are brand new and the store will exchange for me (only had them for 2 weeks - never used until this morning).

I am really ignorant about type of solenoid. Here's a picture:

That looks like the original .... Just put it back in there is no polarity on it .... doesn't matter which of the 2 small terminals are negative or positive.

Nevermind the resistor and diode I forgot you don't have a controller to protect....

Amazing, eh????

I never took any of it as an insult. Don't worry about it, Mark.

Thought I'd report that I got a new 36v solenoid and a new set of 6v batteries. I actually saved money (nearly $100.) because I swapped out those 8v batteries.

It works!! Changed out the solenoid and put in 6v batteries.

Works! I kept the back cover off so I could check on the resistor after driving it on the property. It didn't get red-hot like yesterday. My controller board looks great, acts great.

YAY!!

Thanks again for all your help.
