The Cowl transformation has begun. Since I just had neck surgery in November, the doc told me to try to avoid any lifting heavier than 15 pounds, I decided to start on the cowl. You have seen the before and here is my progress.

Stripped and cleaned. Well, I should say, almost cleaned

The big hole all prepped for glassing.

I'm watching this closely, maybe I'll learn something. I know little or nothing about fiberglass. I could see the new engine in the background. Good luck with the build

Abieex, fiberglass is very tricky but easy to work on. The key is to have the rit temperature so the resin do not get hardened on you too quick. Plus, glassing is a two sided thing on this case, so both sides needs tons of surfacing and preparation. The last time I did some major work/repair with fiber glass was before I jounced the Army in 1989. However, I had a 1995 Chevy step side that somehow I cracked (well, the somehow was to to heavily hunting and trails towards my favorite duck hunting spots). I fixed that pretty good, my wife's uncle have had it since 05 and so far, no cracks. We'll see how rusty I am on this one. The motor has to wait a bit since I am prohibited on doing heavy lifting until my neck is completely fused. I will keep the progress pictures rolling.

Here is the inside of the cowl with all the paint removed.

Close up of the area to work on. Not 100% ready for glassing, all paint must be removed and sanded for adhesion.

Now time to get all close to be flat and as close as possible to the final shape. I use a straight edge to check.

The gap between the straight edge and the cowl needs some re-arranging. Nothing than a heat gun and something to weight it down into position.

Heat and weight did the trick.

Need to finish prepping the inside and hopefully start glassing the inside this weekend.

More to follow soon

Well, could not wait. So here it is: i cleaned and prepped the area and cut the mesh;

I guess i have forgotten a lot about laying fiber glass or it has gotten harder to do this. Here is the base of what i have to build on.

Any thoughts or comments are welcome

Had a decently productive day. Finished the patching job on the front cowl. Now I am thinking about changing changing the shape, i have yet to rebuild anything that i keep original. Here are a few picture of the progress..

Patches all cut and ready

Patches all freshly laid

All sanded up,this is the strongest part of the entire front cowl.

Almost forgot, the motor mount is all done and lift and new shocks all in place.

Now it time to take it all apart, strip all the paint of the frame, and repaint the frame before re-assembly.

Where you get those coilovers from? Do you have a measurement from eye to eye?
