Default Yamaha G1 very weak spark

I bought a Yamaha G1 with very weak spark. The guy I bought it from said he was driving it and it just died and would not restart. I have looked online for some troubleshooting guides and haven't found anything. I have read multiple articles stating that the CDI box is common but expensive. How do I test with out throwing parts at it?

Try unscrewing your spark plug cap (counterclockwise), cut off a small amount of the wire (so you have a clean edge and the core wire showing well. then just screw the cap back on. Be carefull checking spark by grounding it to the engine, if it jumps, you can damage the CDI. I recommend a dynamic spark tester.

Spark plug is new. CDI was replaced right before I got the cart. Four wires coming out of engine for pickup coil, white/red, white/green, brown and balck. The white/red has power when in reverse pedal depressed, white/green has power when in forward pedal depressed, black has ground and the brown wire has a very weak power signal when pedal is depressed. No power going to the coil at any time.
