Hyundai cart restoration
New here, but found the site helpful and thought I'd document some of my own finds for this fairly uncommon cart.
Current issues I'm working through: -voltage regulator sending battery 17+ volts -smells of gas -seems to run rich - touchy throttle -shocks are shot -add back seat -add amp and sub Already resolved: King pin and bushing replacement Fit 14" wheels with low profile tires Wired in stereo Wired lights |

Re: Hyundai cart restoration
Still have to figure out the abrupt engagement from a stop, but Im working on the air ride now. Here it is as laid out as it can go without any front modifications made to clearance. It should go lower if I narrow the front or do some body work. New voltage regulator also solved the over voltage issue. |

Re: Hyundai cart restoration
Welcome! That looks like a fun project. Reminds me of the Yamaha G2/G9 body style.

Re: Hyundai cart restoration
Some of the old hitachi? voltage regulators were adjustable, for sure on the G1.
the cover would come off and you could adjust it with the small slotted screw. Golf courses would bump up the voltage to help keep the batteries charged on those short runs |

Front air ride is installed and controlled by a schrader valve for the time being. They were a drop in fit running them upside down to typical. Ill use the same air shocks for the rear but will require trimming the sleeve down. Re: Hyundai cart restoration
Still trying to resolve the touchy throttle, it clicks and disengages the engine at light throttle, and re-engaging click it wants to take off again. maybe its just the setting of whatever switch controls that? All air ride on, not sure if i like it or not, I was hoping it would ride nicer. Back seat also on, ordered a kit for a yamaha and made some modifications.

Re: Hyundai cart restoration
Make sure the activation switch for start closes before the carb starts to open. Should solve that problem. Probably just a throttle cable adjustment. Make sure you still get full throttle with pedal down.

Re: Hyundai cart restoration
Do you have any info on the parts used for that? My Hyundai has slop in the pins that I would like to sort out.
Mine is the same way. The Mikuni I would re-jet but I am having no luck finding any info on the carb, or smaller jets that will fit it. I am using a rigged-up Amazon carb now but would much rather rebuild the Mikuni. My cart also feels like someone is popping the clutch when you try to start off. I am not sure if it is a worn belt (mine measures a touch over 7/8" on the outside), or a clutch engagement issue, but in a video I watched of a Hyundai cart, it began moving on it's own with the starter engagement, and then when the engine caught it moved faster but there was no sudden engagement jerk happening after the engine had started and built up RPM... it slowly crept forward under starter power and then the engine caught and it smoothly transitioned into forward motion... so I think that is what it should do and I hopefully can sort out what is happening as it is annoying, and adding wear to the parts with the shock forces. Thanks for any info on the kingpin fix |
