I have a 89 club car w/a flathead stock(?) motor that needs a new exciter coil..I did a compression check and have 75 PSI.What should the compression be? I don't know if a rebuild is neccasary or not?

Thumbs up Re: what should compression be?

Sounds a lot like a top end overhaul at least is in need, first take spark plug out and add about 2 ounces of motor oil into cylinder....crank engine over slowly to make sure cyl..walls are coated good and do another compression test !! If your compression is significantly higher ,then it's time for a ring job at least.....If not , you have other problems....head gasket, valves ect...Good luck and let us know !!!

Flathead Repair Book says, Normal Compression is 100 PSI. Low Compression ( under 80 PSI ) would indicate a cylinder problem like rings, gaskets, etc.
