battery level help (sorry in advance)
I've got the US Battery 12XC batteries and tried checking/filling them today. I bought one of the auto shutoff fill bottles and tested it with a soda bottle first as suggested. However when I started using it it filled the cells until they were about 1/2" below the top of the opening. From what I can tell the level now looks to be about 1" above the tops of the plates. The US Battery website lists the following:
"Batteries should always be watered after charging unless plates are exposed before charging. If exposed, plates should be covered by approximately 1/8" of acid. Check acid level after charge. The acid level should be kept 1/4" below the bottom of the fill well in the cell cover." If I go with this logic the level will still be higher than most of y'alls recommendation of 1/4" above the plates. From what I can tell the fill bottle would only work if the top of each well was flush with the top of the battery. I don't want to boil over my batteries but I also don't want to risk running them with too little water. Has anyone else got the US Batteries that can offer any advice? Sorry about the newbie questions but hey, I'm a newbie! |
