Default Replacing RXV Bearing Encoder

I have wondered if it would be easier to put the cart on a lift and go at the motor from the bottom side.

I figured pull the wires loose, raise the cart; then pull the motor.

Really what worked for me was not whether I was going at the motor from the top or the bottom, but coming up with a system that would support the weight while I was removing it / reattaching it to the axle. That’s where I would be off balance and tying to do the feline contortions.

a lift? All we have here is scissor jacks! Our shop is highly lacking in proper tools. I'd kill for a real professional lift...among other nice things.

Since I’ve ‘wondered’... You can safely assume I’m in no better shape than you are....

I bet you're a lot older than me though. I didn't expect to have back issues until i had reached my 60s.

Nick.....

The key thing, no matter what the configuration of the toys attached to the cart may be, is this:

Can you come up with a mechanism to support the weight of the motor while you detach it, and reattach it to the axle. My solution is far from perfect but it does get the weight I’m moving down from 50 pounds to maybe 5 to 8 pounds.

Being horizontal, between the bag tray & whatever is on top, is not good for human anatomy. Our bodies need to be vertical when handling heavier loads!!!

Just want you to ease your back pain.

Well, we do have a motorcycle jack that cradles the motor quite well during removal, however, getting it back on, and not being able to perfectly align it with the jack, well, not as easy.

Worse is on Yamahas, there's too much below the axle on a Drive electric to use that trick.

Can you get it close and then use some shimming to get it close enough to slide on to the axle?

( I use plastic shims from Home Depot to fine tune my rachet straps. )

FYI I only know RXV electric. I can’t comment on Yamaha.

I have a motorcycle lift and a 2 ton shop crane for helping with heavy loads.
