89 club car moves slow in forward and barely moves in reverse
Hi guys,
The Mrs. recently acquired a 1989 Club Care DS 36 volt cart. Batteries are less than a year old. It was running fine until yesterday. She went to go for a ride and it would barely move in reverse. When she switched to forward, it would run but a lot slower than usual. The batteries are fully charged and measure 6.39 volts or higher each. I am thinking it could be the v glide. I took the cover off the v glide and the contactor seems to be moving the as it should. The resistor coils all look to be in good condition. Is there a test I can perform on the V glide? Thanks |

Re: 89 club car moves slow in forward and barely moves in reverse
This cart uses 36v in forward and half the pack of 18v in reverse.
I's likely you have a battery that is dropping out under load. It is not uncommon for a battery to show good voltage at rest and then dropped two or more volts under load if it has a bad cell. Attach your meter to the battery pack and try to drive the cart. Let us know what the reading is with the cart at rest and when you try to go. You can do the same test for individual batteries to isolate the problem battery if the first test shows a significant drop. |

Re: 89 club car moves slow in forward and barely moves in reverse
Hi guys, thanks for the replies. I put the dvm on it and took it for ride. At rest the pack voltage was 37.7 When the pedal was first pushed it dropped to 34.75 then went back to 35.25 and held around there as we were moving. When we stopped it went back to 37.65

Quote:
The problem may be in the amperage delivery system, give every cable end a twist and tug, additionally inspect each cable connection for corrosion or signs of excess heat ( this may be any color change) |

Re: 89 club car moves slow in forward and barely moves in reverse
I pulled and twisted every battery cable, no sign of anything loose, corroded, burnt or broken. What do I try next?
Thanks in advance |

Have you checked the V-glide yet?

Re: 89 club car moves slow in forward and barely moves in reverse
Thanks for the reply 93YellowClubCar. I did take the cover off the v glide. The wiper arm looked like it traveled all the way up and down like it should. The copper contacts did have some very light grooves in them. Is there a procedure to test the v glide? It is 25 years old. I also checked the resistor coil and none of them seemed to be broken or burnt
Thanks |

Re: 89 club car moves slow in forward and barely moves in reverse
One other thing, the Mrs. said the last week or two that she noticed the cart did not accelerate as smooth as before. It would kind of jerk when going from slow to fast where it did not do this before.
Thanks |
