Thanks for the help...think I am going to do the solid state conversion, but first am going to clean everything up underneath...as I am taking things apart, is there anything in the way of voltage I need to be aware of (like shock to me!)?

I have found the electric carts to be pretty forgiving. There are certain situations though that will result in a very fast and dangerous exchange of amperage. This cart does have the potential to deliver the same power as a welder so + and - must always be kept separated

So I started with my dismantling and cleaning this weekend...as I started I found that I could really just keep going and going...how difficult would it be to take this whole thing apart, do the solid state conversion, and put it back together again?

I would start by finding a good place in your shop/garage that you can leave it for a while. Remove batteries, jack up rear and remove wheels. Go from there. I don't know what you consider "taking the whole thing apart" to be.

As far as level of difficulty, I don't think anybody can answer that for you.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Be sure to take lots of pictures and draw plenty of diagrams.

So, just a couple of questions as I make plans on my rebuild (I have gotten the roof, and seats off so far):
1. If I remove the batteries, do I need to charge them periodically? I just recently purchased 6 new Trojan batteries and don't want them to go bad!
2. Where is the solid state conversion kit going to be mounted? Just planning ahead...
3. As I go to remove the Forward/reverse switch and the plug for my charger are there any things I need to be aware of??
