Batteries not lasting very long & Jerking
It does not seem that my cart is going very far between charges. I was looking for that break in procedure on new batteries, but could not find it.
My cart is a 98 EZ GO . I have 3 batteries reading 6.32 volts ea & 3 reading 6.25 volts ea. Question, on flat terrain without getting into any bogs, how far should I be able to run before needing another charge? I know there are no exact figures, but is there an average range for a fully charged set of batteries on a 98 cart? |

Re: Batteries not lasting very long & Jerking
it all depends on the batteries......they have to be broken in when they are brand new otherwise its to late...........with everything working and good cables and batteries one can expect somewhere in the 20 to 22 mile per charge range........every cart is going to be different there are a ton of variables but if you have a volt meter you can load test them and than check all the cells with a hydrometer from what you post you might be needing a set.............................

Whoa! 1 year old batteries should be covered by some kind of warranty!

Oh I missed the link, thanks Spawn! I got it. Now I am afraid I have already messed up that cycle. Oh well, next set I will make sure to do it right.

Re: Batteries not lasting very long & Jerking
RUN TIME ?
not possible to say the actual drive time. When we dealers test batteries, we use a discharge machine that takes the batteries from a full charge down to the shutdown voltage of the cart (for example, on a 36 volt system, the cart is considered in "shut down" at 32.5 volts on the pack under load). The length of time it takes do do this, coupled with the ambient temperature, gives us a rough idea of the life of the battery pack (as well as points out any bad batteries in the pack). As a general rule of thumb, any discharge time above 80 minutes is considered fair, above 90 is considered good, and above 100 is considered very good. A brand new set, properly charged and broken in should discharge at approximately 110 minutes. The reason I gave all that information is that during "normal" operation, you are not actually running with the pedal down for 5 hours. If you were to start out and run full pedal down without let-up, the batteries should last roughly the same as a "discharge test" |

Re: Batteries not lasting very long & Jerking
I put them on the charger and they showed 44 volts when I took them off the charger.

Re: Batteries not lasting very long & Jerking
Not jerking now either, but not sure how long the charge will last. I rode around for about 10 minutes and checked with a meter and they were down to 38+ volts.
