1. Those thoughts have passed through my mind a few times.

Fortunately, there are several generators in the neighborhood that have enough headroom to spare a few Amps for a cart chargers, so we got to recharge for an hour or so every now and then. I only went below 60% a couple of times, and then, it wasn't for very long.

I used my PW II since it is entirely old school, like me, and the most tolerant of the "dirty" power (Electrical noise, poor voltage regulation, line frequency variations, etc.) from small generators.

Since I was maxed out in weight, I removed controller cover to increase air circulation, took my time going uphill and babied the cart in general.

2. If the cart is high and dry, the batteries are fully charged at the onset and the cart isn't being used, you've got about a month before the batteries self-discharge below 70% and significant irreversible damage starts occurring. (Self discharge is about 1% per day)

If you are driving cart, after the hurricane of course, you've got to figure out a way to recharge it.
And the time to figure that out, is before the next hurricane.

My friends with "other" buggies can't figure out why I can make six trips without recharging to their four, carrying roughly the same load the same distance at about the same speed.

It is pretty simple. To raise a ton 500 feet over two miles takes about the same energy regardless of how the motors are wired, how many volts applied or what the logo is on the nameplate and their 4x12V packs store about 8kW while my 6x6V pack stores about 9kW, plus I'm regaining some previously expended energy by using regen braking on the way down.

After this mess settles down, I'll explain it to them, but for now, I'm just letting them simmer and stirring the pot every now and then.

I was just joking, kinda. I did manage to flip my buggy going pretty fast, and recently had a buddy whose kid flipped his CC, My damage was limited to a broken steering column - actually just the tube that holds the column. I had super duper tilt steering for a while.

His aluminum frame didn't fair as well, and his whole front end is toast.

I feel your pain, being a fellow Mountaineer and all... Not for sure your location but here in Raleigh County, it was a mess for sure. Glad you are safe and went the extra mile for your fellow neighbors.

West Virginian's have mastered Adversity 101 for years now! lol

Hope you didn't damage your own body very much on that ride.

Having been a hot-rodder in my youth, I was tempted to hop-up my cart a bit, but being an engineer rapidly approaching 70, I looked at the high center of gravity, short narrow wheelbase and the sprung to unsprung weight ratio, then decided stock speed and height are just fine for my needs.
