93 marathon slooow!
I have a 93 marathon 36v. New batteries but according to GPS it will only run 9 mph on level asphalt. Is this normal or am I missing a high side ( for lack of a better term)?

http://www.vintagegolfcartparts.com/...=100013&Page=1 I believe this is the wireing diagram that I have. I think the link that you gave me will be a good starting spot. I can't get to the cart till next weekend though I will update after that. Thanks

Re: 93 marathon slooow!
Hello Foytfan,
CTD asked me to help. Thanks ctd. I'll help when I can. I have a 93 Marathon as well. The biggest thing I can suggest is checking all your battery voltages. make sure your batteries are fully charged. What is your battery pack voltage? Do you have a way to test your voltages? A full reading of your whole pack voltage and the individual batteries will go a big way to troubleshooting this problem. You said you have new batteries, but have you supercharged them yet. What I mean by supercharging is whether or not you have charged the hell out of them. Even though 6 batteries that are 6 volts each only equals 36 volts. In reality your packs total voltage should be closer to 38-39 volts when it is completely charged. It's just the way it is. Don't question it. If your pack is at 38-39 volts and it is still going slow? Plus you say you have a controller cart vs. a resistor cart. You have a bad connection somewhere. It may be a bad battery cable or a loose connection somewhere. If your FWD/RVS is working ok than your switching properties are working but that isn't enough info to approve or disprove everything is hooked up correctly. Do you go the same speed in reverse? Faster? slower? Your problem could be as simple as a wire for FWD/RVS hooked up backwards or a battery cable or two with bad connections. Your FNR switch might be all junked up and not allowing proper current flow to the motor. Our Series carts need Amps. Voltage pushes the amps to the motor. If the voltage is limited in one way or another by a restriction of a battery cable or a contact you will see less amps to turn the motor. Most times than not when I restriction is in place though you will see a blow out of electrons and a connection will fail. Electricity is really no different than water plumbing. So much in and so much out. Water makes twists and turns to get to its destination and heats up areas where twists and turns are. Friction, weather it be water or electrons is not wanted. Start by making sure your batteries are supercharged. Charge the living crap out of them. Keep them watered after supercharging. Then post results. If you don't have a DMM, Digital Multi Meter, go buy a cheap $10 one at a big box store. It will do wonders for you in the future when you may have more questions. God Bless Foytfan and good luck. Re: 93 marathon slooow!
Also, try driving for a few minutes, then check each and every connection of the large cables that carry the current. By check I mean touch them. If any of them are hot, you have a bad connection. If you find one or more bad connections, you should remove the cable and clean it and the stud/nut. Be careful not to exceed battery torque. Also, be careful not to allow the cable to touch anything. Your battery pack is like an arc welder, and it also releases Hydrogen, which wants to turn into water - explosively.
Water is an ash, which is why if you hear people getting "free" energy out of water... |
