Well, there are no versions of the OBC by-pass that involves jumping the positive side of the solenoid activation to battery pack positive.

What You did was effectively by-pass the diode that is in series with the Tow/Run switch that prevents exactly the problem You were having. If that diode has failed closed (or by-passed as in your case), anytime You remove your foot from the gas pedal or try to go faster than the controller will allow, regen engages and the controller gets a false "main dropout" error condition. The controller goes to limp mode when that happens.

Glad you found the bad jumper, tricky one....
