Controller / Motor size
if I have a 15.5 hp series motor (Advanced D.C. Motors, Inc. Part No. EP4-4001, Rating AU2500 06/24/05, 48 volt), what size controller do I need? Cart is lifted with mud tires and a utility bed.

Re: Controller / Motor size
For max performance use 700 amps
For trailer park operation use 400a |

Re: Controller / Motor size
A 400a controller is suitable for no more than a trailer park cruiser, huh, learn something new every day.

Re: Controller / Motor size
You guys can use 400a out in the woods if you like. I prefer the motor to have full not restricted battery pack access and most people do not want to buy another controller when they need or decided to need a bigger motor.
There are alot of guys who will suggest a 400a controller to go with big tires, rear seat, and hilly terrain but not me. No sir, I've heard from unhappy customers with that combination. And that is why 400a is suitable for trailer parks in a series cart. |

Choosing a controller is akin to choosing batteries. When in doubt, get the largest ampacity controller and the highest AH batteries. A wise man once said: "A motor's ability to draw amps shall not to be infringed upon." |

Re: Controller / Motor size
You really don't need a motor that big, I think you should sell it to me. Ill even exchange my 'humble' 3.5hp motor in its place. :)

Re: Controller / Motor size
All im saying is i have built plenty of "street machines" with 400a controllers. Lifted/big tire carts will need more than 400a to be capable for real off-road use (flat washboard dirt roads dont count as "real off-road" use to me). I agree that 400a aint gonna cut it for wash sand or mud or good hills. To me the "trailer park use" analogy shouldnt include speeds above 15, or any steep hills.
