Default hole in battery, repaired

I can not say that this method will work for everybody but it did for me
I had a battery tray in my beater cart to let go and I didn't know until it had let a battery rub a motor stud and make a hole.
I tried plastic epoxy from Oreilys and it didn't stick very long at all.

Friday I took that battery out and got mad and pulled a stunt I did years ago on something else. I got my biggest soldering iron out, like you solder huge wires and radiators. And some plastic wire ties.
I got that thing hot and I melted the plastic case around the hole a bit and started adding wire tie to it. I had a 3/8ths wide hole. I melted plastic till I had a knot a 1.4 inch bigger than the hole. And it all melted into the case plastic just enough i could see color.
It is holding. I then coated the whole mess, about 3 inches out, with a sealer for automotive windshields. So far so good.

Above the level of the liquid inside and yes you can likely get by with such a repair. Below the liquid level and generally no repair will last very long at all...

Many plastics will be attacked by the acid in a battery. It will probably leak if it's below the surface.

time will tell,I aint sure it will work long term. The set of battery's are about 9 years old and the rest are fine as far as working but this 1 has a hole and I hate to buy 1 battery to go along with the rest that are already past their supposed useful life. I spent alot on a set Trojan T105's new but they have really held up for a long time.

Yea, well the set of Pacer batterys we had in the cart my dad uses lasted over 8 years then i ran them in something else for a short time before I exchanged them.
I checked the water in the battery cell and it was still up so crossing my fingers. The batterys are on their last legs as they don't hold up long between charges but i like to milk something that cost that much as long as I can!

Just thought I would update, the repair is still holding. I have been using the cart with my 12 gallon sprayer around the place here and it is still going.
In october the battery pack will be 10 years old.

Awesome, very rare to see 10 year old batteries doing any useful work. Most that made it that long are lucky to get the cart off the trailer at the shop to install new ones.
