Thx guys the only reason why i was asking is i really wanted an onboard charger so it was easy for my wife to just plug in.my powerwise charger is too heavy for her (shes handicapped) to always bring in at night or stay out of the weather.our cart stays outside at a campground all summer.i know they need to breath but would putting it in a plastic tote of sorts be ok?

You can find an onboard charger. Easier to find in 48V I admit. I've moved my 48V onboard charger to a couple of carts over the past year. It came with my 2012 RXV, I used it on my 2015 2Five - which came without the factory onboard charger/converter, and now it is in my 2008 RXV Shuttle 2+2. It sure is nice just having a 120V cord to plug in and just walk away. My carts sit outside in the weather, so I know exactly what you're dealing with. I've been tempted to add a solar roof again to take advantage of what sunshine we get.

Bob, do you have a thread or any info on how to build that solar roof you are mentioning?

The problem I have with chinese $hit is the lack of an attempt at quality control. Some if the stuff is garbage, some great but you literally are buying something based on what it looks like and on a few bullet points of description that was copied and pasted from a american site.

Personally if something like a charger was $170, minus the lack of product quality control, product support or any kind of warranty, forget even the possibility that it could just blow up. Is not worth my battery investment of $500-750 to save $90. Especially when I know money is tight. You gotta pay to play is my motto. Id rather save up another $90 and not have any issues.

Just my $0.02

I had used 3 new panels and C-clamped them up against one another with a bead of silicon between their frames to prevent getting wet from dripping water when it rained. After the silicon had set, I bolted them to a simple 2 rail frame fashioned from galvanized angle iron with holes in it that I had bought from Home Depot. I removed the factory roof and attached my homemade solar roof to the original roof struts. It worked great. Open Circuit Voltage (OCV) was capable of exceeding 63 volts so I used a charge controller to set the bulk, float, and absorb settings to what they needed to be for my 36V cart battery pack. That same solar roof would have worked on a 48V cart. I mounted a 15 amp analog panel meter under the front edge of the front panel and I would see it solidly pegged on sunny days.

In 2015, I bought a pallet load of 330 watt panels from Sun Electronics that each has a MPPT voltage that matches the recommended float voltage of a 48V FLA battery pack. No MPPT charge controller required with that choice. A less than $50 charge controller is all that is needed to prevent overcharge of the batteries.
