2009 Ezgo rear axel shaft comes out with wheel...

We bought a used 2009 ezgo (48v) from a guy- the right rear wheel was squeaking but seemed like a loose lug so we thought it was an easy fix. Took that wheel off and it was missing the lock washer. Thought we fixed the problem so drove it around the block and stopped at a stop sign, when we pushed the gas there was a pop/thud and then the motor was spinning without wheel moving.

We got it home and jacked it up. The right wheel moves the left does not. When we went to take off the left wheel, the whole axle shaft came out...

We have done some minor solenoid/wiring work on a cart but don't know anything about the rear end. Do we need a whole new rear end? Where do we start?

If it is an RXV, there is an internal snap ring on the outer end of the axle tube that retains the wheel bearing and seal. If that has broken or gone missing, there is nothing to retain the axle shaft in the housing.

If it is an RXV, there is a very detailed service manual available for a 2009.

Thanks so much for your reply. I cannot seem to find the serial number, it is neither under the passenger side dash or on the frame so I don't know how else to determine the model?

The 48V RXV has an AC drive system, an automatic parking brake and no mechanical wheel brakes. The key switch has RNF positions instead of a shift type lever. It is very different from most other models in that regard.

I'm not quite sure of just which models EZGO produced in 2009.
