Default What is this boxy thing at the Pos battery post

2017 EZGO TXT48

JohnnieB once answered this question for someone else. So for awhile I too knew what it was. But now I can't remember, and if I saved that information on my computer, I can't find it...

Just finished installing Alltrax XCT500 and full 2ga cable set from ScottyB. After spending so much time under the seat and reconnecting everything, I've discovered/decided I have too many wires on both the Pos & Neg battery posts of the battery pack. I think I'm going to install a fuse bloc, either a Blue Sea or something similar.

Which leads me to the question, what is this boxy thing on the gray wire from the back side of the triangle shaped charging port?

And does it have to stay on the battery post or could I move it to the future fuse block?

I think it's a temperature sensor

Thanks for the info. So then a follow up question.

If it has to stay on a battery post, do you think I could move it to a different post which would result in feeding it 32v instead of 48v? Do you think it would function if fed 12v from a fuse block?

Just a temp sensor so you can put it anywhere. I had the same situation you did and just used a buss bar off the post to attach other wires. You can also use like a 60 amp fuse but make sure that the heavier cables are at the bottom.

Thanks. I'll look into how that would work out.

The wire actually doesnt transfer any voltage (if it does, its failed), it only allows the charger to see battery temperature. It can actually go on any battery terminal.

Huh. I would have thought the boxy thing would have needed power to see or register a temperature...

Edit, I'll try relocating it and see what happens.

It is a thermistor. Ring is just to act like a heat sink.

The gray cable contains two wires and the power is supplied by the PC board inside the charger port.
