PDS - Walkaway function works when it should not
A PDS car at the club has an ongoing habit of defaulting to Walkaway mode when coasting after throttle is released. Manual says it would happen if the fwd/rev direction is changed or if the key switch is turned off and on but neither of these are being done. The diagnostic mode does not indicate any faults. Car does not hesitate or show any malfunctions when being accelerated, which seems to eliminate a wiring or switch issue. Seems to indicate a controller issue !! Any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: PDS - Walkaway function works when it should not
Which jumper (speed chip) is on J2, if any?
If the PDS mode selected by the jumpers is one that has regen braking, what you are experiencing is called compression braking. (Regen braking that occurs when you lift your foot on the pedal) Does the beeper beep when you are trying to coast downhill? Is the downhill speed trying to exceed the max speed for the mode selected? |

Re: PDS - Walkaway function works when it should not
The car is on #2 setting but the walkaway strong braking with the buzzer sounding is taking place on relatively flat ground at no more than 3 mph. I would expect the regen braking to take place at near top speed and without the buzzer.

Re: PDS - Walkaway function works when it should not
#2 setting (jumper between J2 Pins 2 & 3) is the steep hill mode, which has heavy regen braking as soon as the pedal is lifted, but no beeping during the compression braking.
Is the beeping at the same rate as it is when you push the cart? (Walkaway safety) Or is it the rapid beeping that occurs when the key is turned off or the F/R is moved while the cart is moving? If it is the rapid rate, you may have a loose or dirty connection in the solenoid activation circuit. All it takes a voltage loss on one of the wires highlighted on the attached schematic to trigger an emergency stop. Inspect the contacts on all of the plugs and jacks at the controller and spray clean them. (J1 Pins 4 & 5 have a nasty habit of overheating.) |
