Default Motor Won't Slide Off

I started to swap out the motors tonight and have come across a BIG problem. I disconnected all the cables, and removed the 4 bolts, but it won't slide off. The motor will spin around, but won't slide off. I've tried pulling, tapping, prying, and nothing.
ANY SUGGESTIONS???? PLEASE HELP!!!

Happens often--Do as ForBruce says, it works with a little hassle. Be SURE and put thin coat of Poly Lube on shaft on re-assembly so this won't happen again.

Dont take off the housing cover... remove the bolts that connect the motor (opposite the speed sensor) then bang the speed sensor side TOWARD the differential using a rubber mallet... sounds strange but it will help loosen the motor.. then pry it back some then bang it again... i was in your same situation and then read about this method on an old post... it worked like a charm..

good luck

seems to me that if the motor was BOTTOMED out when bolted ..then it can go no further when hit in the same direction that the bolts tighten in.....

also would not want to STRESS the gear assembly anyway ...only my opinion....

let us know how the BIG BANG THEORY worked for you ....

As a retired Maintenance Machinist, over the years I have removed many frozen motors from "stuff", ie, pumps, drives, etc . . . when the use of pullers was not an option due to space limitations, shock and/or heat usually were the only methods available. When using shock, discretion is the key when selecting a mallet and how much of a whack to use. Many times it does not take much movement to free the armature shaft (male) from the female gear/shaft it is driving. Whenever possible, using a solvent such as Kroil at the mating joint is preferred, but not always practical if you can't see where armature shaft physically makes contact with gear box. I have even had to resort to using steel wedges to separate some units in conjunction with shock from back end of motor armature. These were extreme isolated cases.

Seen allot of this where I work, mainly when they used neversieze on the shaft. Light coat of grease works wonders.

WOW!! This thing is on there good. I may end up having to take it in to someone to fix. Let this be a WARNING to anyone doing a motor upgrade to first see if they can even remove their old motor first!!!

I have never had one of these apart, but I have to ask the obvious question . . . is there a locking setscrew that holds the armature shaft in place? Many things that I have taken apart have had a set screw usually accessible thru an inspection plate on the housing of what the motor is connected to.
