1976 CC Caroche second "gear" problem.
I have a 76 caroche with 5 solenoids between the batteries from front to back. 3 resistor coils are mounted behind the battery boxes center of cart. All solenoids check well, all connected and individually. My problem is there is no torque on second stage forward. Motor does turn with 2nd stage but with no more torque or speed than first stage. I am thinking maybe the fan switch but it does engage the solenoid. I mostly know this cart inside out, but for the life of me cannot figure this out. Has anyone ever come across this before?

I also want to mention that when the 3rd stage kicks in it jumps to that speed, as if it’s going straight from 1st to 3rd. This makes it very hard to finesse.

It may be a possibility that your resistor coil between stage 1, and stage 2 is broken,
Disconnect the battery pack, get out the VOM, set it to ohms, and check each resistor coil at the mounting lugs. |

have you jacked rear up to see if its going from 2nd to 3rd? don,t just assume because solenoid is clicking its good even a bad solenoid will click i think i would replace that one it may be weaker then weak and just engaging enough............................................ .......

Re: 1976 CC Caroche second "gear" problem.
Thanks for the replies. I have not had a chance to mess with the cart any since my original post. Out of town for a couple of weeks, but will post as soon as I get a chance to play with it some more. I do know that I have disconnected the last four solenoids and tested one at a time, each worked individually with their respective coils. Again, I will know more when i get back home. Thanks.

if its not a solenoid it has to be microswitch that engages it so follow small wires to find the micro,s i think on that cart they may be under dash somewheres on drivers side.................................

I've been out of the golf cart scene for a while, but picking it back up a little now. I never did post the solution to this issue. Turns out it was the micro switches that were failing. After 8 years, I like to say thank you all for tha advice!!!!

Re: 1976 CC Caroche second "gear" problem.
Yeah, after that last post I took the front back apart and found a bad switch. Replaced that and the cart ran strong until I got a newer and put this one in storage. Dug it out recently now I have a new problem on a separate thread.
