Solenoid Backwards?
I am trying to install a new solenoid on a 92 marathon and I am confused about something. The one in the cart is installed like the picture below, but the side of the solenoid that is labeled BAT is going to the controller. Is this right? Seems that side would go to BAT + not B+ on the controller? Or is it relative to the polarity on the small posts?
Thanks all. |

Re: Solenoid Backwards?
You determine the polarity of the solenoid, it has no determined nor memory polarity.
Just hook it up with a schematic in hand. |

Re: Solenoid Backwards?
Ok so according to this schematic, is my diagram correct? I thought following the schematic was ok, but then I noticed the BAT label on the solenoid.

Re: Solenoid Backwards?
You can certainly flip it over, which many people have done and send the bat labeled side to the battery.

Re: Solenoid Backwards?
Taykol is correct. I don't know why they put BAT on one side? Maybe so the factory installers could get the solenoid upright every time?
There is no polarity on the solenoid terminals. There is no directional flow. You simply MUST put the diode on with the banded end towards the positive activation wire. See diagram |

Re: Solenoid Backwards?
worked perfect. They should really just get rid of the BAT label, totally misleading. Also in the schematic there is a + and - on the large lugs which is totally deceptive. I think only the anode and cathode need to be explained for the diode connection.
Thanks all! |

Re: Solenoid Backwards?
Some Solenoids are labeled "Bat", because they are trying to direct the current in a path thru the windings that they found more effective.I run across this all the time with truck-equipment.Some Mfg.s' want a certain terminal to the Battery (Bat-Label),others don't care.In most cases, the labeled units look just like the one you have pictured(metal-body).99% of the plastic-body units are not labeled.Hope this helps.
